Teaching the Teabaggers
How Glenn Beck, Jonah Goldberg and The Revolutionary Holocaust: Live Free or Die are completely full of shit

Pay attention Patriots because this is really simple. Other than the distasteful use of the term holocaust for something that didn’t kill 6 million Jews let’s begin by noting the big words being thrown around: liberalism, socialism, Marxism, fascism and communism. For starters, while all of these are “isms” and all provoke negative knee-jerk reactions that are not synonymous from the root word synonym which means similar so let’s make it clear that they each have their own meaning, their own history and using them interchangeably shows ignorance on your part because some are in fact leftist political ideologies and some are most certainly right wing ideologies that were defined long before Glenn Beck got a TV show and began confusing his viewers with historical revisionism. But for today’s lesson we will be working off of the Glenn Beck, FOX News and Jonah Goldberg position that FASCISM is of the leftist persuasion. In 2007 we produced 40-hours of material on the 14 points of fascism which you can download here or if you don't have 40-hours to spare simply read on.

We're working off of 14 easily identifiable points written by political scientist Dr. Laurence Britt who studied Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile). I know, I know you hate those egg head elitist professors - know it all wimps - liberals - commies, weaklings sitting in school all day unlike real men in the real world; you name it and while you don't know it this hatred of academia is the 11th point. So, if you'll continue it's just 14 points and since you sat through 1,000 points of light so it's not too much to ask and I bet you'll like it. It's just a few minutes between friends...

1. Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism

From the prominent displays of flags and bunting to the ubiquitous lapel pins, the fervor to show patriotic nationalism, both on the part of the regime itself and of citizens caught up in its frenzy, was always obvious. Catchy slogans, pride in the military, and demands for unity were common themes in expressing this nationalism. It was usually coupled with a suspicion of things foreign that often bordered on xenophobia.

OK Patriots, who owns the following:
The flag, flag lapel pins, support the troops - both the slogan and the magnets, the term patriot, Lee Greenwood, the Minute Men, Jesus, hatred of Mexicans, hatred of Arabs, Indians, Persians, etc. and doesn't know the difference, hatred of Canadians, hatred of France and other Europeans who didn't send troops to Iraq or pulled out of Iraq, hates the Chinese, hates the Korans, wants African-Americans to go back to Africa (the continent not the country in case some of you are wondering), thinks Obama is a Muslim, hates Muslims, thinks all Muslims are terrorists, believes in racial and ethnic profiling, etc.

On the other hand and by your own words, Liberals:
Burn the flag, hate Jesus, hate the 2nd Amendment, hate the troops, hate the Constitution, love terrorists and want to get them therapy and lawyers, want to open the borders, hate America first, etc.

We got the first one down, right?

2. Disdain for the recognition of human rights

The regimes themselves viewed human rights as of little value and a hindrance to realizing the objectives of the ruling elite. Through clever use of propaganda, the population was brought to accept these human rights abuses by marginalizing, even demonizing, those being targeted. When abuse was egregious, the tactic was to use secrecy, denial, and disinformation.

OK Patriots, who own these:
Pro-torture (in your language it is pro-aggressive interrogation), pro-rendition, pro-death penalty, anti-hate crimes protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, blame rape victims, charge rape victims $2000 for rape kits (Gov. Palin AK, Gov. Perry TX), blamed the troops as "bad apples" for torture, hates the New York Times for reporting Abu Ghraib (among other reasons I'm sure), supports apartheid, supports discrimination, supports 45,000 uninsured Americans dying each year, hates public housing, hates welfare, hates food stamps, hates free lunches, hates S-CHIP, etc.

When it comes to Liberals what do you hear just on FOX News?
Liberals are endangering America giving rights to terrorists, liberals want to close Guantanimo and release the terrorists in the US, liberals don't believe in killing prisoners, etc.

Are we good so far?

3. Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause

The most significant common thread among these regimes was the use of scapegoating as a means to divert the people’s attention from other problems, to shift blame for failures, and to channel frustration in controlled directions. The methods of choice—relentless propaganda and disinformation—were usually effective. Often the regimes would incite “spontaneous” acts against the target scapegoats, usually communists, socialists, liberals, Jews, ethnic and racial minorities, traditional national enemies, members of other religions, secularists, homosexuals, and “terrorists.” Active opponents of these regimes were inevitably labeled as terrorists and dealt with accordingly.

Oops, but hey just for fun, let's review:
Clinton did it - everything, Carter did it - hostages, FDR did it - New Deal programs like Social Security, LBJ did it - Medicare, hates welfare queens, hates hates unions, hates anything to the left of Ronald Reagan, hates Jews (you who want the Jews to die so the rapture can happen, this includes you too), hates socialized medicine, hates Hugo Chavez, hates Muslims, hates all non-Christians, hates all non-whites, is afraid of black people, hates secular progressives (SP's in Bill O World), hates gays, hates lesbians, hates transgenders and transvestites and doesn't know the difference, hates brown people, hates Arabs, hates Iranians, thinks invading a nations because they have oil is good, thinks killing civilians is ok as long as they are brown and foreign, thinks killing civilians is ok as long as they are black and poor, etc.

Now, who do Liberals hate and scapegoat as an enemy to rally around?
Liberals hate you because as you say we hate everything America and love everyone else and since you are America it's just you we hate along with guns and God which are also America. Liberals can't get to hating anyone else because once liberals hate you, America, first, they just can't quit you like the line in Brokeback Mountain goes.

Are you ready to move onto one of your favorites?

4. The supremacy of the military/avid militarism

Ruling elites always identified closely with the military and the industrial infrastructure that supported it. A disproportionate share of national resources was allocated to the military, even when domestic needs were acute. The military was seen as an expression of nationalism, and was used whenever possible to assert national goals, intimidate other nations, and increase the power and prestige of the ruling elite.

Now that's you're excited:
Again, who owns "Support the Troops!", wore purple band-aids at 2004 GOP Convention mocking Kerry's Purple Hearts because Kerry went to Vietnam and Bush is the war president with the flightsuit and big penis, hates Clinton for cutting military spending aka gutting the military, loves Halliburton, loves KBR, loves Blackwater, loves Eric Prince, loves "24", watches "24", loves war, loves preemptive war, loves the war on drugs, loves the war on crime, declares war against everything they don't like, calls the UN pussies for making talk instead of war, loves wars for oil, etc.

Well, as you say, Liberals are pussies and hate the military in every way shape and form...

Moving on...

5. Rampant sexism

Beyond the simple fact that the political elite and the national culture were male-dominated, these regimes inevitably viewed women as second-class citizens. They were adamantly anti-abortion and also homophobic. These attitudes were usually codified in Draconian laws that enjoyed strong support by the orthodox religion of the country, thus lending the regime cover for its abuses.

OK Patriots this will just take a second:
Who hates feminists, think women should be paid less than a man, thinks a woman is too emotional - code for PMS - to be president, is pro-life, is anti- gay rights, is anti-gay marriage, is anti-gay tolerance, is anti-gay co-existance, is anti-gay breathing, is pro-life until they can find a gay gene, think homosexuality is a choice, ever was proud of something that said "God Hates Fags", etc.

Now Liberals:
Weakened the family with the feminist movement, appointed judicial activists who decided Roe v. Wade, passed equal pay, passed Family Medical Leave Act, are pro-gay marriage and equality (Liberals, not Democrats, there is a difference), are pro-gender identity, support gay adoption, support ENDA, support repealing DADT, etc.

We have the feminazis, pro-choice and love the queers, ok? Next...

6. A controlled mass media

Under some of the regimes, the mass media were under strict direct control and could be relied upon never to stray from the party line. Other regimes exercised more subtle power to ensure media orthodoxy. Methods included the control of licensing and access to resources, economic pressure, appeals to patriotism, and implied threats. The leaders of the mass media were often politically compatible with the power elite. The result was usually success in keeping the general public unaware of the regimes’ excesses.

Real quick: You can call Obama a Nazi and you're considered a hero but anyone who criticized Bush was a traitor and should be arrested, killed, shut up (and sing), etc. be they whistleblower, press, blogger, husband of undercover CIA operative, Country Music singer, etc. Also note that while "The Liberal Media" myth is believed by all of you right-wing talk radio is thriving and left-wing talk doesn't exist due to bankruptcies and advertising black lists.

7. Obsession with national security

Inevitably, a national security apparatus was under direct control of the ruling elite. It was usually an instrument of oppression, operating in secret and beyond any constraints. Its actions were justified under the rubric of protecting “national security,” and questioning its activities was portrayed as unpatriotic or even treasonous.

Again, quickly:
Who supported warrantless wiretapping and who endangered America when they wanted it stopped, who is for a border wall, who sends armed civilians to the border, etc.

Next…

8. Religion and ruling elite tied together

Unlike communist regimes, the fascist and protofascist regimes were never proclaimed as godless by their opponents. In fact, most of the regimes attached themselves to the predominant religion of the country and chose to portray themselves as militant defenders of that religion. The fact that the ruling elite’s behavior was incompatible with the precepts of the religion was generally swept under the rug. Propaganda kept up the illusion that the ruling elites were defenders of the faith and opponents of the “godless.” A perception was manufactured that opposing the power elite was tantamount to an attack on religion.

Pop quiz, Patriots:
Who owns Jesus as opposed to who are the Secular Progressives (again, SPs in Bill O World), who are the godless Liberals and who launches the War on Christmas every year?

Moving on…

9. Power of corporations protected

Although the personal life of ordinary citizens was under strict control, the ability of large corporations to operate in relative freedom was not compromised. The ruling elite saw the corporate structure as a way to not only ensure military production (in developed states), but also as an additional means of social control. Members of the economic elite were often pampered by the political elite to ensure a continued mutuality of interests, especially in the repression of “have-not” citizens.

Alright Patriots we can just use some news from last week:
Who, exactly, supports the Supreme Court ruling that corporations can spend unlimited amounts of money in elections and who is adamantly opposed to this? Who believes a “person” that exists only on paper has free speech rights? Who participates in corporate-sponsored protests and thinks that is a grassroots movement verses Astroturf? Astroturf means fake grass, BTW.

Next…

10. Power of labor suppressed or eliminated

Since organized labor was seen as the one power center that could challenge the political hegemony of the ruling elite and its corporate allies, it was inevitably crushed or made powerless. The poor formed an underclass, viewed with suspicion or outright contempt. Under some regimes, being poor was considered akin to a vice.

This one is easy Patriots so here we go:
Who hates unions, “card check”, teacher’s tenure, American auto worker’s benefits and pensions, welfare, public assistance, etc.?

Now, we moonbat Liberals love unions, Cesar Chavez, Che and everything “pinko” or “commie”, right?

Bring on the next point…

11. Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts

Intellectuals and the inherent freedom of ideas and expression associated with them were anathema to these regimes. Intellectual and academic freedom were considered subversive to national security and the patriotic ideal. Universities were tightly controlled; politically unreliable faculty harassed or eliminated. Unorthodox ideas or expressions of dissent were strongly attacked, silenced, or crushed. To these regimes, art and literature should serve the national interest or they had no right to exist.

Another easy one Patriots:
Who hates egghead elitist professors, hates know-it-alls, hates non-faith-based knowledge, hates science, hates art endowments and grants, thinks colleges are bastions of communism, thinks global warming is a scam by Al Gore and The Weather Channel for ratings, money, etc.

Next is another one you’ll enjoy!

12. Obsession with crime and punishment

Most of these regimes maintained Draconian systems of criminal justice with huge prison populations. The police were often glorified and had almost unchecked power, leading to rampant abuse. “Normal” and political crime were often merged into trumped-up criminal charges and sometimes used against political opponents of the regime. Fear, and hatred, of criminals or “traitors” was often promoted among the population as an excuse for more police power.

This is kindergarten stuff for you Patriots but let’s review anyway:
Who is pro-death penalty, pro-locking up non-violent drug offenders, pro- war on drugs, pro-warrantless wiretapping, supports the USA Patriot Act, supports indefinite detention, supports Guantanimo Bay staying open, pro-torture, pro-CIA black sites, pro-extraordinary rendition, etc.

On the other hand, Liberals hate all of the above because they hate America.

Next is one you’ll have difficulty with but let’s review it anyway:

13. Rampant cronyism and corruption

Those in business circles and close to the power elite often used their position to enrich themselves. This corruption worked both ways; the power elite would receive financial gifts and property from the economic elite, who in turn would gain the benefit of government favoritism. Members of the power elite were in a position to obtain vast wealth from other sources as well: for example, by stealing national resources. With the national security apparatus under control and the media muzzled, this corruption was largely unconstrained and not well understood by the general population.

I’ll make this one easy to understand so let’s continue, Patriots:
Who hates campaign finance laws, who support no-bid contracts at cost plus despite claiming “fiscal conservatism”, who says “Drill, baby, drill!”, who supports mountain top removal for coal mining, who had political appointees editing NASA findings unfavorable to polluters, who is against cap-and-trade aka cap-and-tax, who has more elected representatives in Federal prison right now for corruption, etc.

Now, as you say, Liberals want to limit corporate free speech, support ending the use of fossil fuels, opposes drilling offshore or in ANWR, hates no-bid contracts, etc.

Finally, this one will stump you something fierce so thankfully we are at the end:

14. Fraudulent elections

Elections in the form of plebiscites or public opinion polls were usually bogus. When actual elections with candidates were held, they would usually be perverted by the power elite to get the desired result. Common methods included maintaining control of the election machinery, intimidating and disenfranchising opposition voters, destroying or disallowing legal votes, and, as a last resort, turning to a judiciary beholden to the power elite.

On this one you’ll argue with a stop sign that it’s blue but let’s try anyway:
Who did the CEO of Diebold vow to re-elect and had problems with their machines, what party appointed Tim Griffin interim US Attorney who took part in the 2004 vote caging scheme to disenfranchise mostly black voters who vote Democratic and summarily resigned in tears, what party jammed the phone lines of Democratic offices in 2002, what party broke into the Watergate Hotel to get Democratic Party records, what party in 2008 robo-called Democratic and mostly minority districts to tell voters that this year Democrats vote on Wednesday instead of Tuesday, what party filibustered the renewal of the Voting Rights Act and voted against the original passage, what party passed the Help America Vote Act to enable more challenges at the polls to force registered voters to vote provisional ballots which get thrown away, what party not only sends vote challengers to the polls in Democratic districts but also sends armed guards, police, warning of arrests at the polls for outstanding warrants, unpaid parking tickets, etc., what party sent Tom DeLay’s and other Congressional and party staffers to pose as regular outraged citizens demanding a stop to the 2000 recount in Florida and finally appointees from what party on the Supreme Court not only circumvented state election law and stopped a legal recount but also recently ruled against stare decisis and in judicial activism legislating from the bench dismantled federal election laws to allow corporations who don’t have the right to vote unlimited power in buying elections?

Now, as far as Liberals go, we cheered for none of the above and found it to be highly undemocratic and dirty on principle and regardless of who benefited.

Progressives and Obama are due their criticisms but we, as Americans, need to at least be on the same page because if you have your “facts” and we have our facts it’s like debating The Holy Bible with someone who has only read Harry Potter and thus futile. The Democratic Party does have a tendency towards corporate power but it's worth noting that the Democrats who are pro-corporate are the Clinton Democratic Leadership Council types (DLC), who are synonymous with "New Democrat", "Blue Dogs", "ConservaDems" or as we on the Left call them: corporate public policy prostitutes because they vote with Republicans.

Our next lesson, coming soon, will be with regards to the misplaced anger at President Obama who not only is closer to you politically than with Liberals but also about how he's more willing to please you than us as well as jumping at the opportunity to condemn us for our dissent while exempting all of you... even after you call him a Nazi who wants to kill grandma and all we criticize is not living up to his campaign promises. So, digest this first and we'll move onto the next lesson soon.
